THE ROLLING STONESのドラマー Charlie Wattsが亡くなったことが明らかになった。享年80歳。バンドの公式SNSで彼のスポークスパーソンが"我々の愛するCharlie Wattsが亡くなったことを、大変悲しい気持ちでお知らせします。本日、ロンドンの病院で家族に囲まれながら静かに息を引き取りました。Charlieは愛された夫であり、父であり、祖父であり、THE ROLLING STONESのメンバーとして、同世代で最も偉大なドラマーのひとりでもありました。この困難な時期に彼の家族、バンド・メンバー、そして親しい友人たちのプライバシーの尊重をお願いします"と声明を発表している。

Charlie Wattsは1941年、ロンドン生まれ。1963年1月、前年に結成されたTHE ROLLING STONESに加入し、以来約60年間、寡黙でクールなイメージのドラマーとして活動し続けてきた。今回の訃報は、今秋より開催が予定されていた全米スタジアム・ツアーに、体調を理由に参加しないことを発表してから数週間後のことだった。
