『Too True』

ネオ・ガレージ、シューゲイザーといったシーンにリンクしながらドリーミーかつノスタルジックなポップ・ミュージックを作ってきたロサンゼルスの女性4人組。前作から3年ぶりとなる3作目のアルバムはRAMONESやBLONDIEからRONETTESあるいはSHANGRI-LASに遡ることができるポップ・センスという意味では彼女たちらしいものながら、バラードも歌う新境地も含め、成長を洗練という形でアピールするニュー・ウェイヴ・サウンドは、バンドが転機を迎えたことを印象づける。そんな変化はファンを驚かせそうだが、彼女たちのファンならクールにハンマー・ビートを打ち鳴らす「Lost Boys And Girls Club」のかっこよさに溜飲が下がるはず。JESUS & MARY CHAINやVELVET UNDERGROUNDへの憧憬が窺える。（山口 智男）

『Only In Dreams』

昨年リリースされたデビュー・アルバム『I Will Be』から約1年半ぶりの新作が早くも到着。THE DRUMS、BEST COASTらに先駆けてサーフ・ロックにガレージ感を掛け合わせたサウンドをシーンに提示して来た彼女達の新作は、前作にあった勢いはやや押さえ気味なものの、ポップさや楽曲の完成度は明らかに今作のが一枚上だ。プロデュースは前作と同じくRAVEONETTES等を手掛ける大御所Richard Gottehrer。サウンド全体の手触りは変わらないものの、仕上がりは格段に耳馴染みが良く心地良い。ヴォーカルDee Deeの気怠くキュートな歌声も素敵なのだけど、1曲1曲のメロディの良さが際立つ彼女達の成長がしっかりと刻まれた理想的な2ndアルバム。（遠藤 孝行）

『I Will Be』

GIRLS、THE DRUMSと次々と面白いバンドが登場するUSインディのローファイ・ガレージ・バンド勢。続いて登場するのは、DUM DUM GIRLS。現地では既に話題沸騰中の彼女達だが、例えばVIVIAN GIRLSなどと比べると、随分と人懐っこく、ヴォーカルを前面に配したすっきりとしたサウンド・プロダクションが特徴的。RAMONESからVASELINES、RONNETSなどのガールズ・ポップまでをローファイなウォール・オブ・サウンドで包み込むセンスが抜群にキュート。ちょっと一本調子な感が残るソング・ライティングは今後の成長に期待したいが、今のローファイ・ガレージに共通する、ポップ・ミュージックに対する無邪気な空気がしっかりと反映されたバンドだ。（佐々木 健治）
