THE STROKESのメンバーそれぞれが本隊とは別に素晴らしい作品を発表する中、沈黙を守ってきたフロントマン、Julian Casablancasが遂にソロ・アルバムを発表した。ソング・ライティングはTHE STROKESのそれなのだが、ドラム・マシーンやキーボードを多用した洗練されたトラックに乗ると、楽曲がまた違った輝きを放つ。Julianの声も穏やかでありながら色気があり、気張っている様子など微塵もない。フォーキーな楽曲もメロウな曲も挟みながら、憎らしいほどに洗練されたロックンロールを鳴らす。Julian Casablancasの才能に改めて感服させられる、極上のポップ・ミュージック。こんな作品を聴かされると、THE STROKESの新作が待ち遠しくなる。（佐々木 健治）
