2014年3月、突如YouTube上に「By Your Side」をアップし、素性を明かさぬまま活動を開始したTHE RUNAWAY CLUB。実はカナダのパワー・ポップ・バンドTHESE KIDS WEAR CROWNSのAlan Poettcker（Ba/Vo）によるソロ・プロジェクトなのだという。80'sよろしくなポップなシンセ・サウンドが全開な今作には、"RUNAWAY CLUB"というその名の通り逃避願望的なエモーションが感じ取れる。しかしその耳当たりのよいポップなサウンドは、PASSION PITやCHVRCHESらのようなシンセ・ポップという括りよりも、"ポップ"というもっと大雑把な括りでとらえたほうがよいのかもしれない。ヒップなイケイケ男子やお洒落女子、根暗が自慢のナードたちもまとめて踊らせる懐の深い1枚。（山元 翔一）
